The story of
Karen & Tony Barone's
LoveMonsters
.
LoveMonsters are original works
of art created from the fertile imagination of artists KAREN &
TONY BARONE. The Barone’s witty and humorous
depiction of their strange and comical LoveMonsters and their
convoluted and twisted words and phrases are vehicles for commenting,
reflecting and satirizing our times...a sort of tongue-in-cheek self
anthropology.
The origin of these graphically-complex, androgynous creatures was
inspired by a figurative image in a mosaic tile floor discovered by the
Barones while visiting the Roman ruins of Pompeii. The image haunted
them for more than two years until it started showing up in their work.
Today’s LoveMonsters in their current and evolutionary form
are graphically very far removed from the ancient Pompeian mosaic,
however, they retain much of its ancient spirit.
Tony began drawing LoveMonsters as verbal & visual puns in his
wheat-paper drawing pad to entertain Karen on the globe trotting couples
long flights.
The Barones' brightly colored and brilliantly clever, witty and
humorous,
"LoveMonsters interpret language literally . . . therefore, they
misinterpret almost everything...and get it wrong every time."
